Whether a man is truly sterile or not, he can still both pass on and get STIs by having unprotected sex. You should still use a condom to protect yourself and partner/s from STIs.
Plus, only a small number of men under 30 are actually sterile, so if someone tells you that they are, they may not be telling the truth.
